Letter Cut-Outs

The “Letter Cut Outs” project aims to enhance students’ letter recognition skills by engaging in a creative exploration of the visual diversity inherent in different letter designs. Through this project, students will discover that letters can take on various forms while remaining easily recognizable, fostering a deeper understanding of the flexibility and adaptability of written language.

Directions

Letter Hunt
  1. 1. Students will search for diverse representations of each letter from magazines.
  2. 2. The goal is to collect as many versions of each letter as possible.
Create a Letter Collage
  1. 1. Using the collected cut-outs, arrange and glue the letters into the sewn sketchbook, creating a visually appealing letter collage.
  2. 2. Emphasis should be placed on experimenting with different placements, sizes, and orientations to understand the versatility of letter design.
Reflection
  1. 1. Students will engage in a brief reflection on their observations during the project, identifying patterns, challenges, and connections to the overall project.

Assessment

Assessment will focus on the creativity and thoughtfulness displayed in arranging the letters, the accuracy of letter identification, and the depth of reflection in the provided feedback.

Deliverables

  • • You will submit a photograph of your monogram letters.
    • • Take the photo at 1:1 and add some creativity to it.
    • • Think about how the photograph is styled.
    • • Think about what’s in the background.
    • • Are you holding it, or is it a flat lay?
  • • Name your files: LASTNAME-FIRSTNAME-ASSIGNMENT.JPG
  • • Submit your photos in the assigned folder.
