Book Cover

The “Book Cover Design” project challenges students to apply their typographic and design skills in creating a visually appealing cover for one of the selected classic books. Students will choose a book from the provided list and design a cover that captures the essence and themes of the chosen literary work.

Drawing Eight Designs
  1. 1. Students will create eight distinct book cover designs.
  2. 2. Four on each page.
Book Selection
  1. 1. Choose one of the provided classic books for their book cover design project.

    2. 2. “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee

    4. 4. “Moby-Dick” by Herman Melville

Research and Conceptualization
  1. 1. Conduct research on the selected book, exploring its themes, characters, and overall mood.
  2. 2. Brainstorm ideas for visual representation.
Sketching and Iteration
  1. 1. Initiate the design process with sketching.
  2. 2. Create rough sketches to experiment with different layouts and compositions.
  3. 3. Draw multiple iterations to refine ideas.
Color Exploration
  1. 1. Explore color options for their book covers.
  2. 2. The color choices should complement the themes of the selected book.

Assessment

Assessment will focus on the creativity, coherence, and effectiveness of the book cover designs, considering the use of typography, color, and overall aesthetic appeal. The exploration of eight different designs demonstrates the student’s depth of conceptualization.

Deliverables

  • • You will submit a photograph of your monogram letters.
    • • Take the photo at 1:1 and add some creativity to it.
    • • Think about how the photograph is styled.
    • • Think about what’s in the background.
    • • Are you holding it, or is it a flat lay?
  • • Name your files: LASTNAME-FIRSTNAME-ASSIGNMENT.JPG
  • • Submit your photos in the assigned folder.
